Georgia Schrubbe

Entrepreneurship-Charleston-Women-Salsa-Studio

"Salsa" translates to sauce...it's a melting pot of music, culture, and movement. Everybody is welcome here! Holy City Salsa is a place to come together with people from all walks of life and unite over a common passion-- dance.

Georgia is a ballerina gone wild! She danced and trained from coast-to-coast, and fell in love with Latin dance in 2009. Her passion (re:addiction) took her to Mexico and Cuba, and following a career in freelance writing and social media marketing, she started her own Latin dance company, Baila ConmiGA, in 2014. After renting out space all over Charleston for classes, she opened the doors on a physical location, Holy City Salsa, in 2016.

Deirdre Sommerkamp

Deirdre went from owning a successful cupcake company with her sister and being addicted to Diet Coke and Sour Patch Kids (and being sick and tired all the time…) to building her own health and wellness business, alongside her corporate role at a consulting and tech firm. Today she is healthier and happier than ever, feels amazing and has lots of energy. Why the change from cupcakes to clean eating? Losing a sister to cancer, her mom to an autoimmune disease and several friends in their 40s and 50s to cancer, she started researching the correlation between what we eat and our health. What she discovered was alarming! And, what we put on our skin matters, too… (equally alarming findings!)

Now she’s helping people get healthy inside and out and is on the side of cancer and disease prevention. What is right for one person isn’t necessarily right for someone else. There is no “one-size-fits-all” when it comes to nutrition and skincare, but there are some things that everyone should avoid. It is her goal to educate as many people as possible about what’s best for them so they can make better choices in what they eat and put on the skin.

Wendy Keefer

Cellar Experience believes in making the world of wine accessible to everyone. We offer unique wine experiences in a relaxed, fun environment to help you expand your knowledge and senses. This isn't your average wine tasting, built with the end goal of selling you wine. This is a true wine education, designed to give you the skills and confidence to enjoy wine the way you were meant to experience it.

Wendy Keefer spent nearly 20 years practicing and teaching law. She loved the law but knew that she wanted to branch out into other things that sparked her passion. An amateur collector for years, Wendy knew she wanted to dig in and learn more about wine. While pursuing more formal training in all things wine and taking a job in the wine industry, she realized she wanted to share what she learned with others with the goal toward removing the confusion and intimidation that often cloaks wine in mystery. Opening Cellar Experience was the culmination of that goal. Wine brings everything Wendy loves together - geology, geography, history, science and art.

Brenda Workman

I am passionate about economic and community growth, as well as business development and job creation as well as real estate sales and development.
People consider her an expert in Economic Development and GIS. What does that mean? She was part of the team that brought BMW to South Carolina. Today, that has meant 9,000 jobs that didn’t exist 20 years ago. When it comes to GIS (Geographical Information Systems), it’s a computer program that combines maps with data. Brenda used her expertise in GIS to help Oklahoma City attract Dell Computer and create 3,000 new jobs.
I love to focus on strategies designed to make communities more nimble and responsive to changing economic conditions (even before they have occurred), including demographic changes in population, technological innovation, and global competitiveness. I also work in real estate development and sales.

After choosing two years ago to return to the Lowcountry, Brenda is now engaging in the world of economic and business development, where she had success in four different states and over 200 communities.Expertise: Business Development, Economic Development, Geography for Business, and Real Estate Consultant/Sales
Education: B.S.in Finance and M.B.A from University of South Carolina; Doctorate in Educational Leadership from NOVA Southeastern University.

Erin Turner

women-entrepreneurs-charleston-erin-turner-photography.jpg

Photography has been something I have pursued since I was a child and while my first career took me to major metropolitan cities as a television producer, visually seeing and telling a story has always been a craft I was honing. I finally had the courage to pursue photography full time in 2013 and never looked back. My job - whether I'm working with teens & tweens during a vulnerable time in their lives, women who want to experience the empowerment of a beautifully styled boudoir shoot, or a business looking to show the person and the personality behind their company - is to tell each person's story authentically. To get the the heart of what makes each of us unique and highlight that through beautiful, honest imagery. The biggest part of my job is making anyone I'm shooting feel comfortable, and I believe that is my biggest strength after years of interviewing fortune 500 CEOs to some of the biggest names in Hollywood. I know how to make everyone feel special and even more I know how to understand who they are and get to the heart of what will resonate with them and who they are speaking to. It is my greatest challenge and by far my most rewarding feat - shooting images that tell the story of who you are, no matter your background. I create relative, interesting and personal content to be used on a regular basis on Social Media, websites and blog posts so personal brands can attract and engage their tribes through stylized content.

Lauren Brandon

women-entrpreneurs-charleston-straight-to-art.jpeg

Connecting creativity and order is our passion. Artists want to pursue their art, but with the growing demands of office work, social media, shipping, and receiving, studio time diminishes and creativity is reduced. Artists want more time in the studio and less time in the office. Straight to Art is the solution. Our collective background in curation, entrepreneurship, art education, creative writing and organizational expertise have given us a unique opportunity to help our clients reach their full potential. Our goal at Straight to Art is to keep the artist’s work flowing and organized, generate sales and provide clients with the time that they need to thrive in the studio.

After graduating from the University of Mississippi with a B.A. in Southern Studies and English, Lauren moved to Charleston in 2000 to pursue the culinary arts. She spent twelve years as a stay at home mother to two boys while remaining active in the worlds of art, southern literature, history, health and education. In 2017, she joined Jennifer Blackwell as a co-owner of Straight to Art, an arts management firm in Charleston, SC.
